Great Avatar Movie Featurette! Human Hardware!
Team Altman Great Avatar Movie Human Hardware Featurette!
Avatar is the story of an ex-Marine who finds himself thrust into hostilities on an alien planet filled with exotic life forms. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, he finds himself torn between two worlds, in a desperate fight for his own survival and that of the indigenous people. This is James Cameron’s Avatar Featurette showcasing the human technology used by the mining colony on Pandora, and with more than 10 years in the making. From the cryogenic drawers that the humans are put in during transport to Pandora, to the oxygen masks that must be used while in the planet’s atmosphere, to the weaponry the humans must use to defend themselves against the creatures on the planet. It’s interesting to hear about the real logistical and scientific decisions behind the types of aircraft used on Pandora. And yes, they do talk about the big robotic mech AMP suits.

AVATAR, a live action film with a new generation of special effects, takes us to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery as he leads an epic battle to save a civilization. James Cameron, the Oscar-winning director of Titanic, first conceived the film 14 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist. Now, after four years of actual production work, AVATAR delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

A solution they’ve come up with is that they’ve grown Avatar bodies from human DNA, mixed with Alien DNA, and they transfer the marine’s mind into the Avatar’s body so he can blend in with the natives and gain their trust.
However, one of the female natives notices that he shouldn’t be there, and tells him to go back, but he is able to enlist her help, and she teaches him their ways, while he starts to grow close with the breed. The trailer cuts into various scenes of war and battle, as they try and save their land from being taken over by the marines.
- James Cameron’s “Avatar” movie at theaters on December 18, 2009.
