Video Entertainment: Hollywood Looks to Videogames?

To some it comes as no surprise to see Hollywood looking closely at videogame technology in the quest to produce popular Avatar-style movies that are rooted in the technology for 3-D motion capture. An Australian technology company, Sydney-based Depth Analysis brings the next stage in the evolution for the technology in the form of what they call “MotionScan.”

Using a network system of stereoscopic cameras, an actor can now be scanned completely devoid of any plastic markers that might serve to complicate and mask their performance.  The system developed by Depth Analysis generates a fully rendered model of the performance and textures that is based on what it sees.
